At the local party levels, despite having so many women contesting Panchayat elections, important positions are held mainly by men. All political parties show their allegiance to women’s participation by creation of a separate women’s morcha or wing. Women still predominate only in positions and activities that support male party leadership at the grassroots level.
We have adopted Child Parliament as a model to encourage child participation, leadership and strengthens life skills like self awareness, empathy, critical thinking, problem solving, creative thinking, effective communication, interpersonal relationship & coping with stress, coping with emotions and rights.
With the support from Fogla Foundation, Equidiversity Foundation has worked with almost 900 children (78% of whom are from the marginalized communities) of 6 Primary Schools in rural South 24 Parganas, Pathar Protima Block till October 2019. While the work has been accepted by the community and the schools readily, the impact of the work has also started unfurling.
Develop capacity and provide handholding support to women elected leaders to actively participate in decision making processes and governing, ensuring democratic leadership.
Develop capacity of women voters through self help groups to engage in Annual Action Plan of the Village Council, contribute in implementation and monitoring of service delivery & create strong support base for the women leaders.
Improve livelihood opportunities for socially and economically backward women
Develop skills of women to undertake new livelihood activities and improve existing ones
strengthen development of women community/self help group leaders, for active participation in political processes for inclusion of their livelihood activities for support and sustenance
Advocacy with GP, links with govt department mechanisms for linking 163 migrant workers stuck in different parts on India for their safe return
42 migrant workers provided with dry ration stuck in Gujarat and Pune through advocacy and networking
Translation of a booklet in Bengali (written by Nandita Haskar) on the migrant crisis
